Celebrating women in the City on International Women’s Day

The Eastern City Business Improvement District demonstrated its Girl Power by hosting its first ever International Women’s Day reception on Thursday.

The event, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Trinity Square, saw women from the world of media, law, business, the charity sector, the City of London Corporation and the hospitality sector come together to celebrate, network and share experiences.

Guest of honour was television broadcaster and national newspaper journalist Camilla Tominey, who spoke about juggling work and motherhood, working in a male dominated profession and suffering from “imposter syndrome”.

Kate Hart, CEO of the EC BID, said:  “the theme for this years International Women’s Day is ‘invest in women: Accelerate progress’. We must ask ourselves how we can accelerate our own progress, how can we invest in each other?  We must lean into these challenges, find our voices, support each other and embrace our allies, many of which are men (the enlightened ones!).

“Of course, it’s about calling out bad behaviour, but it’s more positive than that.  It’s about speaking with confidence, with authority and a sense of pride about what we contribute to society. Pushing for change, challenging the status quo, being brilliant and, of course, doing it with style and grace.”
