The EC BID has worked in partnership with Landsec and the charity Hive Curates to deliver a new cultural hub for the Eastern City. By activating previously empty shop units “Broadworks” at 55 Old Broad Street has created 10 new affordable studios, a gallery, shop and exhibition space for artists to create and promote their work. Hive Curates are also delivering a dynamic programme of cultural workshops and public events across the next 18 months.

This project is a key exemplar of the tremendous potential waiting to be unlocked through the activation of empty units. By taking proactive steps to make better use of these spaces EC BID are helping to revitalise our communities, giving opportunities for creative individuals and cultural organisations to enhance our local economy, fostering greater vibrancy within the Eastern City.

The EC BID is looking to replicate this successful activation of empty units in additional locations across our footprint.

Kate Hart, Chief Executive of EC BID said: “As the Eastern City’s voice for business, entrepreneurs, and community empowerment, we’re delighted to have partnered with Landsec and Hive Curates on this project. This is a partnership working in action, enabling us all to deliver more for the benefit of this unique part of the City; broadening its appeal and attracting new audiences.”
